Laila Anna Sophia (Anderson) Kennedy, of Ionia, passed away peacefully in her 
sleep on Dec. 11, 2007. 

She was born in Ionia Township on Sept. 15, 1910, the daughter of Charles and 
Emily (Johnson) Anderson and lived her entire life at that home.  She attended 
Ionia Public Schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in 
Ionia and a member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed gardening and loved 
her special cats. She married Carrol H. Kennedy in Ionia on June 4, 1931. He 
preceded her in death in 1987 after 56 years of marriage.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances VanZee of Grand Rapids in 
1991.  She is survived by a daughter, Pat Gustafson of Ionia; a son, Robert 
(Janet) Kennedy of Ionia and six grandchildren, Dan Gustafson of Bozeman, Mo., 
Tom (Lisa Evans) Gustafson, Barbara (Kris) Haskins, Lynn (Bernie) Ardis, Mike 
(Melissa) Gustafson, all of Ionia and Wendy (Greg) Wehler, of Muskegon. She is 
also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and several 
nieces and nephews. 

Private family services will be held with Rev. Judith Shaver officiating. In 
lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made in Laila's name to the First 
Presbyterian Church of Ionia. Arrangements have been entrusted to the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home.
