Kenney, age 88, of Ionia, passed away Friday, August 6, 2004. She was born October 18, 1915 in Ionia, the daughter of Olen and Margaret (Ingraham) Courser. She married Leonard F. Kenney on March 20, 1937, and he survives her. Esther loved to garden, knit and crochet, and knitted caps for new-born babies at the hospital. She loved music, playing the piano and organ and enjoyed, with her husband, the Thursday night sing-a-long at the Ionia County Commission on Aging. Mrs. Kenney worked for Chrysler at the Lyons Trim Plant. Surviving are her husband, Leonard Kenney of Ionia; daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Jim Stencel of Ionia; three grandchildren, Dawn (Jon) Hossinger of Kendalville, Indiana, Russell (Jennifer) Stencil of Corona, California, and Paul (Sheila Cummings) Stencel of Orwings, Maryland; five great-grandchildren, Alison Nelson, Candace, Courtney and Kristen Stencel, Shane Stencel, and three step great-grandchildren, Heather (Dave) Strycker and Krista and Nicholas James; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Velma Courser of Ionia; a step great-great-grandson, Samuel Strycker; sister-in-law, Mrs. Edwin (Mary) Courser of Montrose, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arnold, Edwin and Elmer Courser. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia, by Pastor David W. Bogda, of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Ionia. Interment will follow at Balcom cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
