Aug. 16, 2013 Robert J. Kenny, 84, of Belding, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2013 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Bob was born on Nov. 3, 1928 in Ionia, the son of Foster and Helen (Foltz) Kenny. Bob proudly served his country with the Navy during World War II. During the late 1940's and early 1950's, Bob raced at the Crystal Racetrack and the Speed Dome in Comstock Park. He was a track champion racing with car number 16. He spent most of his years working as an auto body repairman and in earlier years had served as Fire Chief for the City of Belding. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #203 and the VFW Post # 4406 both of Belding, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and mushrooming. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He married Dolores Parks on July 23, 1948 in Belding and she preceded him on April 15, 2005. He is also preceded by two sons, Guy and David; daughter Kathy; his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy and Marge. Bob is loved and survived by his children: Nancy (Dick) Rice of Belding, Ron (Sharee) Kenny of Greenville and John Kenny of Belding,; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way; daughter-in-law Judy Willmore of Stanton; siblings, Jim (Marion) Kenny and Jim Brown, all of Greenville and Pat (John) Currigan of Holt and brother-in-law Harry Orr of Medina, Ohio. In keeping with Bob's wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Byron Davey officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour before the service. Private Committal prayers will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Fenwick. Memorial contributions may be given to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans (3 North).
