The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, April 7, 1976


Stephen LeRoy Kenter, 87, of 2559 North Jefferson road, died Tuesday evening at 
his home following an extended illness.  Born in Detroit July 2, 1888, he was 
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson LeRoy Kenter.  December 19, 1913, he was married 
at Sault Ste. Marie to Hazel Millen and she survives.

He came to Ionia when young and moved to Detroit after his marriage.  He was 
employed by the Fisher Body in Detroit and Pontiac 28 years.  In 1936 he 
returned to Ionia to his present address and was a self employed farmer.

Besides his wife, Hazel, he leaves three sons, Stephen, Jr., of Orleans, 
Lawrence at home and Ivan of Redlands, Calif.; six daughters, Mrs. Esther 
Morrison of Madison Heights, Mrs. Edith Reynolds of Gowan, Mrs. Edna Hatfield 
of Pontiac, Mrs. Doris Aldrich of Middleton, Mrs. Phyllis Diephis of Byron 
Center; and Mrs. Myrtle Schmidt of Minneapolis, Minn.; 20 grandchildren and 11 
great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Piper and Mrs. Clara Wirtz of 
Ionia.  A son and daughter, Robert and Gail preceded him in death.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Myers-Roetman funeral home.  Interment 
will be at Highland Park cemetery.
