Jan. 23, 2016 ELMER H. KERMAN Elmer H. Kerman, age 98, just shy of his 99th birthday, passed away Jan 20, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born March 5, 191, in Quincy, Michigan, the son of Pearl Kerman and Dessie (Hillard) Kerman. Elmer married Celis "Maxine" Vandermark on March 6, 1948, in Saranac. She passed away in 2011. Veteran of World War II he served in the Army Air force in P.O. Valley, Ardennes, Thineland, Air Combat Balkas, Italy. Elmer worked as a contractor in heating & Plumbing most of his life. He retired from Van Dylen heating in 1992 and worked part-time for 10 years after retirement. many factories, schools, hospitals, and hotels in west Michigan bear his stamp. which he proudly pointed out til the end. Elmer was a die heart Tiger fan and enjoyed "Pedro" card game, puzzles. root beer floats or "Coolies' and fishing, especially on Trout Creek or Deer Lake near Boyne City, he also had a passion for "Studebakers" and his Model T Ford Depot Hack. Elmer had a simple life with a few frills, he could fix most of anything till there was no fixing them, and then he'd fix them again. Elmer is survived by his children, Diane Kerman of Saranac and David (Jan) Kerman of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer (Patrick) Nelson, and David P. (Amanda) Kerman; nieces, Marge Vandenbree and Doris Rumery; nephew, Bob (Linda) Wuopio; great- grandchildren, Collin, Caitlin, Kayleigh, and Cheyenne; brother-in-law Jerry (Letha) Shorna; cousins-in-law Dick (Ruth) Crandell; special cousin (Sister)-in-law, Dorothy Smith; and best friend Rev. Bob Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; his love and life partner, Celia "Maxine"Kerman; brothers, Vern, Alvy, and Donald; sisters,Beatrice Hollbrook, Loretta (Wuopio) Zwiers, and Irene Kerman; beloved niece, June Troanek. Elmer was a gentle soul who loved his family, friends and country. He was a man of the "Greatest Generation" Funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 25, 1 p.m. at Lake FuneralHome in Saranac with Mrs.Dorothy Smith officiating. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac American legion post #175.
