Mrs. Lena M. Kernen, 88, of Potters road, died Wednesday evening at the Belding 
Christian nursing home after a short illness.

She was born in Saranac February 26, 1889, the daughter of Herman and Caroline 
Haskins Dawson.  She married Ralph Kernen in 1912 and he preceded her in death 
in 19??.  Two children also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kernen had worked for many years at Stevenson’s and at the Vogue Shop as a 
seamstress and clerk.  After retiring she worked as a seamstress from her home.

Survivors include four sons, Herbert Talcott of Saranac, Kenneth Kernen of 
Royal Oak and Fred and Robert Kernen of Ionia; three daughters, Beryl Talcott, 
Kathryn Rutz and Mrs. Joseph (Joan) McCord of Ionia, 20 grandchildren and 22 
great grandchildren.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Leddick funeral home with burial in 
the Saranac cemetery.  The family will receive friends and relatives at the 
funeral home Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Memorial 
fund is established for the Salvation Army.

[Transcriber's Note:  The correct spelling of her father's name should be Heman Dawson 
(not Herman). Also, Ralph Kernan died in 1950.]
