Robert L. Kernen, 69 of Ionia died Sunday, Dec. 3, 1995 in Ionia.

He was born April 1, 1926 in Easton Township, the son of Ralph E. and Lena M. 
(Dawson) Kernen. He went on to marry Velma Carigan in 1948, in Ionia. He served 
in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of the VFW Sheridan Post.

He is survived by his wife Velma; daughters: Gail Broga, of Wisconsin, Kathy 
(Ron) Teaker, of Ionia and Karen (Chuck) Witter of Ionia; brother Kenneth 
Kernen, of Royal Oak; sisters: Katherine Rutz of Ionia and Joan (Joe) McCord, 
of Ionia; four grandsons; and one granddaughter

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Kernen and granddaughter, Andrea 
Kernen, in 1972, to brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Saranac with Rev. Kendall Harger officiating. Interment will be in Saranac 
Cemetery and visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. 
to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Memorial contributions may be given to Helping Hands Hospice or Ionia 
Commission on Aging.
