April 25, 2017 MARJORIE KERNEN 1925-2017 Marjorie (Astle) Kernen, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 92, passed away, April 20, 2017. Marjorie was born, Feb. 11, 1925 in Ionia, the daughter of Alan and Louise Astle. She was a graduate of Ionia High School-Class of 1942 and lived her entire life in Ionia. Marjorie was married Nov. 5, 1949 to Fred H. Kernen of Ionia. She was a devoted member of St. John Episcopal Church, the Ionia Historical Club, the Moose club, and the S.E.R.A.(State employee retiree Association). marjorie worked at the A.C. Sparkplug Factory during WW II and the Ionia Chamber of Commerce for seven years. She loved traveling reading, quilting, and doing crossword puzzles. Marjorie was an avid bridge player and a big Detroit Tigers and Lions fan. Most of all, her biggest joy was her family, whom she enjoyed spending time with. Surviving Marjorie are her children, Melanie (Robert) Bennett of Ionia, Kristine (Gregory) Lyons of Ionia, Cynthia Kernen of Naples, FL, and Fred A (Susan) Kernen of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Matthew (Gina) Bennett of Ionia and Lynne (Bryan) Bosch of Grand Haven; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jenna Bosch and Blake and Brooke Bennett; sisters-in-law, Joan McCord and Velma Kernen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family living in England. The Funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Mark Johnson at 12 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment swill be at Easton Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service at the Berlin Center Methodist Church. In Marjorie's honor, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 107 West Washington Street, Ionia. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
