June 29, 2016 MARY MAGDALENE (MAY) KERR Mary Magdalene (May) Kerr, "Granny", age 97 of Ionia,Michigan, was surrounded by prayer and love with her "babies" on June 24, 2016, as she peacefully climbed her final step of those golden stairs into Heaven, where she was greeted by her Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ, and reunited with her dear Momma. Mary was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Sale Creek, Tennessee, to Thomas Edison May and Ida Rose (Miller) May, while her daddy instilled the word of the Lord into their family by reading aloud from the Bible every day, her Momma taught her how to love unconditionally and help those in need. Mary loved nothing more than Jesus and her family, including being the Momma of eight children. She welcomed everyone to be a part of her family and told all who visited to just call her Granny. She was extremely blessed and proud to earn the honor of being, called Great-Great-Great Granny to six living generations. Granny loved visiting with family, praying; telling exciting stories of her long and hard but blessed life; cooking (biscuits and gravy, pancakes, mac-n-cheese, Southern cornbread coconut cake, the list goes on); growing and sharing her beautiful flowers; sewing (doll clothes, doll beds, baby and wedding albums, baby quilts, and other beautiful pieces); she loved listening to and singing Country and gospel music; writing poetry and country songs; and sending and receiving greeting cards She was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge in Ionia. Mary always mentioned how blessed she was to be survived by all of her children; James(Rose) Kerr of Ionia, Mary "Barb" Morgan of Ionia, Andrew (Becky) Kerr of Battle Creek, Thomas Raymond (Carolyn) Kerr of Sheridan, Velma (Ken) Croff of Ionia, Valerie (Fred) Gave of Rockford, Dave (Cindy) Kerr of Ionia, and Debra Artis of Lansing. She is also survived by her sister Drucilla Suttles of Dayton, Tennessee; 31 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 52 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren. Mary was reunited in heaven with her parents; ex-husband Andrew Kerr Sr.; brothers Ernest, Walter, George, Paul and Bill; sister Myrtle; grandchildren; Tabatha, Kelly, Christine Renee, Jimmy, Mike and Kevin; great grandchildren; Casey, Steven Jr. and Gary; and great-great-grandchildren; Ryder and James. Funeral service for Mary will be held at the Shiloh Community Church n Friday, July 1 at 11 a.m. wit Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Internment will be at Balcom Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 pm. and 6-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home, 3521 South State road, Ionia, Mi.
