Kibbey was born in Grand Rapids and moved to Saranac with his parents when a child. He graduated from Saranac high school in 1943 and enlisted and served as a yeoman in South American and Trinidad for three years. He was discharged in May 1946. Upon his return to civilian life he was married and moved to Eau Clair, Wis., where he was a member of the Hope Lutheran church. Surviving is the wife, Mary L.; a son, William J. Jr.; his parents, Carlton Kibbey and Mrs. Frances Kibbey of Grand Rapids; and three sisters, Mrs. Vivian Wall of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Maxine Blundy and Mrs. Betty Vandefield of Portland. Funeral services will be held at Eggerbeen funeral home in Grand Rapids Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Full military graveside services will be conducted at the Saranac cemetery at 3 p.m. All the stores in Saranac will be closed during the time of service. This is the first Saranac World War II veteran to die since the war.
