Kidd, aged 65 years, for many years identified with the local railroad offices, passed away at the Belding hospital at 2:45 o’clock on Tuesday morning, following an illness of about three months, the last ten days of which were in the Belding hospital and during which time he underwent an operation for an infection in one of his lungs. Mr. Kidd was born on the old Kidd farm one mile east of Orleans, on October 8, 1864 and spent his boyhood days there, attending the Orleans district school and latter attending the Ionia high school. The greater part of his life was spent in the employ of various railroads and he was an employee of the present Pere Marquette at the time it was known as the old Detroit, Lansing & Northern, when it was first put through this territory. For two years he was engaged in the manufacture of cigars at St. Louis and Ionia, but returned to railroad work again. On January 26, 1887, Mr. Kidd was married to Miss Floy McQueen, at Palo, and to this union were born two children, Walter Ray and Ralph C. Kidd, both of whom, with the mother and widow, survive to mourn the loss of a good father and husband. A brother, James C. Kidd, of Cincinnati, Ohio, also survives. Twenty years ago this coming August, Mr. Kidd came to Belding and started in at his position in the local railroad offices and his devotion to his work and his friendly manner of meeting people made him both a valuable man for the railroad company and also for the community, where he has many friends who will learn with deep regret of his passing. Mr. Kidd was a member of the Masonic order, Modern Woodmen of America, Doric chapter O. E. S., and the Order of Railroad Telegraphers. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at Fitzjohn’s Funeral Home, under Masonic auspices and with Rev. G. H. Mooers, of the Methodist church officiating and burial will be in River Ridge cemetery.
