A. R. LOSES LOYAL MEMBER, WM. L. KIDD Youngest Civil War Veteran in Wm. H. Borden Post to Be Buried Wednesday. Death sounded the last taps Sunday morning for William L. Kidd, the youngest member of William H. Borden post, G.A. R., after critical illness of heart disease, which lasted over a period of three weeks an although it was known by members of the family that he could not live long, he was considered somewhat better and drank a glass of milk but a few minutes before he died at 4:30. Born in Orleans 80 years ago December 12. Mr. Kidd rounded out a life of usefulness in service to his country as a Civil war soldier, to the state as a guard at the reformatory, where he was stationed for 11 years and to the public with nearly a quarter of a century of service with the American Express company, leaving the reformatory in 1891 and taking the position with the express company where he remained until retired on pension 14 years ago. Mr. Kidd enlisted with Company 2, sharpshooters of the twenty-seventh infantry in Grand Rapids and served for three years and was mustered out at Delaney House, D.C. July 26, 1865. With the exception of the three years in the war he has always resided in Ionia county and has lived in the city for nearly 50 years. His wife was Miss Ida Chittle, and at the time of her death, January 7, 1924, they had been married 47 years. A daughter, Mrs. Fern Dumond died September 28 of last year following injuries received in an auto accident Labor day, and another daughter, Belle, died in 1890. One son, Frank Kidd, and five grandchildren survive him besides two half brothers, James Kidd of Cincinnati, O., and Walter Kidd of Belding. He was affiliated with the G. A. R. and the Methodist Episcopal church and the services will be conducted from the home at 305 West Washington street, Wednesday at 2:30 Eastern time, with the members of the G. A. R. and his pastor, Rev. W. F. Kendrick having charge of the services. The burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
