Ionia Standard, 27 Feb 1879

Died, in this city on Tuesday morning, the 25th inst., in the 65th year of her 
age, Jane, wife of James M. Kidd.  Mrs. Kidd was one of the early settlers, 
coming to Michigan in 1835 with her father and mother, Jesse and Mary 
Stevenson, and three brothers and three sisters.  Two of her sisters, Sarah and 
Jesse, have long since passed away; Catherine, her youngest sister, and her 
three brothers, George, Edward and John, survive her.  In the early history of 
our county she was foremost in deeds of charity and lore, giving her aid to 
every good cause and assistance and words of encouragement to the many needy 
pioneers of the little settlement.  She will be remembered by hundreds of those 
early comers with feeling of affection and esteem.  For the past two years she 
has been suffering from disease, and her death though somewhat sudden was not 
unexpected by her family.  The funeral takes place at the residence this 
afternoon at two o’clock.
