All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Maureen Cross mcross3454@gmail.com December 12, 2021, 3:24 pm Lake Odessa Wave - August 27, 1970 CAVE-IN ACCIDENT CLAIMS LOCAL MAN Jerry Lee Kidder, 34, passed away Monday afternoon at the Kelsey Hospital about a half hour after admittance following a cave-in accident while working with the Leach Construction Co. of Grand Rapids at Lakeview. Kidder was working in a 7 foot deep trench when the walls collapsed. It took 15 minutes for workmen and Lakeview firemen to free Kidder. He was taken to the hospital where he died of multiple skull injuries an hour later. He had been employed by the construction company about a year. Mr. Kidder was born at Gaylord May 14, 1936, son of Glen andAlice (Pritchard) Kidder, and attended school at Alba and came to the Lake Odessa area in 1959. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany for two years. Surviving are three daughters, Tammy, Lisa and Amy of Lansing; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Kidder of Woodland; four brothers, Rev. Mark Kidder of Newberry, Calvin of Sunfield, Lewis of Aurelius and Larry of Lake Odessa, and three sisters, Mrs. James (Celia) Bowen of Woodland, Mrs. Lewis (Treva) Dewey of Lumas, Calif., and Mts. Lila Smith of Hastings. Funeral services were held Thursday (today) at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
