Portland Observer, 1 Dec 1874

Died – At Portland, Nov. 27th, at 4 o’clock a.m., Clorinda S. Kilborn, aged 69 
years, 2 mos.  And her aged father, and her brother and relatives, all living 
at a distance and much of the time absent during her illness, desire to express 
their sincere thanks to the neighbors and many friends at Portland for their 
assiduous and faithful care and attention to the deceased during her last 
sickness.

The deceased emigrated from the State of New York to Detroit, Michigan, in 
1834, and came to Portland, Ionia County with her father, Asher Kilborn, in 
1836 being one of the first pioneers of Western Michigan.

Her lot in life seemed to be that of helping to smooth the path of life for her 
aged parents and others, and never to desert suffering humanity so long as hope 
could encourage; and then to assist in rendering the last tribute of assistance 
and respect which could be desired by friends.  Finally, she herself was 
stricken by the conqueror of all that is of this earth.

Prepared by this stage of existence for another, she leaves this world bearing 
a triumphant record to the habituation of a world of eternal peace and joy.  
All friends would unite in bidding farewell.

And well may they hope, when the last sands of life are run with them, to meet 
her again.  To unite in filling out the final destination of those fashioned by 
the Creator in his image.  And in accordance with the will of an all-wise God, 
may all then join in the universal anthem of praise to the Lord who gave and 
who hath taken away, for, “Blessed is the name of the Lord who is God of heaven 
and of earth.”
