Martin Kimball, after a brief illness, died of laryngitis, at his residence in the township of Easton on the 12 inst. Mr. Kimball was born in R.I. Dec.25, 1804, and when a mere boy went with his parents to the State of Vermont, where he lived until he came to Michigan in June, 1848. He came to this State and county in the prime of life, an active, vigorous man, and carved for himself and family a home and a fortune out of the raw material of the wilderness. He possessed those sterling qualities of mind and traits of character that make their mark whenever and wherever they live. A man of strict integrity, honest and truthful with himself and his neighbor, temperate in his habits and correct in his deportment, he was an example to all. Thorough in his investigations and painstaking in his reading, his mind was a store house of facts, and his convictions leading him to an immovable judgement, followed the line of his own careful thought as surely as the needle follows the magnet. The center of a large circle of friends and acquaintances who looked to him for council and advice, Uncle Martin was ever to them like an uncle and to them his death has left a void which shall never be filled. During many years of his life he was an earnest and active member of the Wesleyan Methodists, and as such bore testimony to a truth that leaves the stamp of eternal life upon its possessor, and dying has left to his family and friends a legacy of character rich in all those elements that make life honored and memory revered.
