KIMBALL - IONIA - Viola Christina Kimball, 87, of rural Ionia died on Tuesday at her home. She was born the daughter of Irving and Florence Uebele Main on February 8, 1905, in Fremont Township in Isabella County. She attended the Delo School in Fremont Township through the eighth grade. She then attended Millbrook High School. Following high school, she worked at the Belding Silk Mills until she was married to Clifford Kimball on March 12, 1924, in Belding. They farmed in Broomfield Township, Isabella County, and later purchased their own farm in Ionia County in May 1937. During World War II, she worked at the A.C. Spark Plug factory, Ionia. The couple later worked at the Lansing Fisher Body Plant until retirement in 1967. She is survived by her husband; one son, Leon of Fort Bragg, Calif., one daughter, Ella Hardy of Ionia; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one step great grand-daughter, four sisters, Grace Himebaugh-Carpenter of Texas, Beulah Bradeen of Kalamazoo, Diana Snyder-Beymer of Atlanta, Joy Maxon-Flynn-McBride of Mt. Pleasant; one brother LaVern Main of Blanchard; 15 nieces; and 28 nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, four brothers, four nieces and 5 nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert C. Nixon officiating. Burial will be in Orleans Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials have been established for Ionia Area Hospice and the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home. Pallbearers will be L. G. Lake, Jeff Kimball, Alvin Maxon, Harris Diehl, Lewis Main, and Alson Strong.
