The remains of Brayton D. King arrived from Chicago at 11:49 a.m. Thursday and were at once conveyed by Undertaker Bradley to the home of Catherine King, on State street, where the funeral services were held at 3:00 o'clock p.m., Rev. W. H. Thomas officiating. A large number of friends, both from Easton and this city. The widow, Helen A., and little daughter Genevieve were unable to accompany the remains, on account of the child's sickness, and this circumstance evidently added to the great weight of sorrow resting upon the aged parents, George and Phoebe A. King, as they followed the body of their only child to its last narrow abode in Highland Park. Brayton graduated from our High school in the class of '74, of which he clearly stood in the front rank. His work as a student was always honest, thorough and masterful. Walking from his home, three and one-half miles distant, he made the remarkable record of never having been either tardy or absent. At once entering the state University, he completed his course most credibly in that institution in '79, having also taken a special course in civil engineering. He was soon after employed in that line of work by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railroad and spent several years in this service of that road. For several years last past and up to the time of his death he has been engaged in civil engineering in the city of Chicago,, where he has had charge of several important public works. His studious care, accuracy and competency, whether in office of field, brought him steady and well deserved promotion. His fatal illness began with a severe congestive chill and was of brief duration. Before his father arrived, in response to the hurried dispatch, Brayton has passed away. The writer has known Brayton King from his early boyhood. His whole life has been one of sweetness, purity and unselfishness. No boy was ever more gentle, true and loving to his parents. He was like a sunbeam in the home, as he was in society, and everyone who came into social or business relationship with Brayton King, felt a wholesome influence for good from the contact. His whole life has been pure, stainless and above reproach. In filial devotion to his parents, in his tenderness and constancy to wife and child, in candor, integrity and fidelity in every relation, the life of Brayton King stands out as a rare and worthy example. The many and beautiful floral pieces sent by Chicago friends testified to the warm appreciation of his friends in the great city, and were fitting tributes to the memory of the sweet life gone out.
