Ionia Shopper's Guide Saturday April 30, 2022

KINGSLEY

Charleen Elaine Kingsley, age 83, of Saranac passed away on April 23, 2022. She 
was born on October 14, 1938 in Ionia, the daughter of Wayne and Ethel (Seybold) 
Zander. Charleen married Judson (Jud) Kingsley on November 14, 1958 in Ionia and 
he preceded her in death in 2004.

Her father's work as a telegraph operator with Western Union meant that she and 
her family moved frequently, living in Mt.Pleasant and South Haven before moving 
to Ionia. Starting in her junior year of high school, she worked as a telephone 
operator for Michigan Bell in Ionia until her marriage, when she moved to 
Saranac with Jud and they started their family. In 1974, she and Jud took over 
the operation of Saranac floral, running a retail flower shop and greenhouse and 
becoming for years a must-visit place for anyone doin spring gardening or 
needing floral arrangements for special occasions. In her later years, She was 
an active member of Saranac Community Church, attending Bible Study and 
volunteering with the Food Pantry. Charleene enjoyed knitting with the Tuesday 
Knitters group and seeing friends and family. She was an enthusiastic gardener 
and bird watcher, and also loved listening to the Bee Gees and the Beetles.

Surviving are her children; John (Sue) Kingsley of Saranac, Jill Kingsley (Ron 
Beard) of Lake Odessa, Lisa (Tony) Cunningham of Clarksville, and Tim Kingsley 
of Grand Rapids. Grandchildren Nathan (Jason) DeLong, John (Clarice) Kingsley, 
Elizabeth Kingsley (Michael Baltrusaitis), and Tyler Cunningham. Step-
grandchildren: Kristana Beard, Jamie Beard (Cam Hockenberry), and Daniel 
(Whitney) Beard. Great-granddaughter, Kylie AnnMarie Kingsley. Step-great-
grandchildren; William Beard, Rosswell Beard, Drew Beard, Evelyn Beard and 
Estelle Beard. Brother and Sisters-in-law; PatZander of Saranac and Jim and Judy 
Kingsley of Springport. Numerous nieces and  nephews. She was preceded in death 
by her parents, husband, brother Robert Zander and step-grandson Ron Beard.

Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services was held at the Saranac 
Community Church, Friday April 29th at Noon with Pastor Mark Hall officiating. 
Interment Saranac Cemetery. Thee will be a visitation at the church from 11 a.m 
until the time of services. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may 
make them to Saranac Community Church Food Pantry. A special Thank You to the 
staff of Green Acres of Lowell. Arrangements are in care of Lake Funeral Home of
