Kirby of Ionia township died very suddenly Thursday evening at the Hotel Crathmore, Grand Rapids. Mr. Kirby had gone down to Grand Rapids with his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Soper, and they had left him there. He took a room at the Crathmore, and retired, and nothing more was seen or heard from him, till on Saturday morning they broke in to the room, and found him just as he had fallen before he had undressed. He had been suffering from heart trouble for over a year and death was pronounced to be failure of the heart. Mr. Winchell of Winchell & Stone made the trip down to Grand Rapids through all the rain and muddy roads Sunday morning, and returned with the remains. The funeral will be held at the home on route 7, Ionia on Tuesday at one o’clock, and will be at the North Plains church at two, the interment being in North Plains cemetery. Mr. Kirby was 58 years old, having been born in England, and coming to this country while quite young. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Soper, and a granddaughter near Ionia, by a mother and brother in Palo, and a sister in Charlotte.
