June 19, 2012 Mildred Emily (Bruton) Kirby, 85, of Ionia passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012. She was born on June 21, 1926 in Portishead, England the daughter of Stephen Henry and Emily Elizabeth Bruton. Mildred became a War Bride to Calvin C. Heilman on Feb. 22, 1945 and resided in Ionia, they had received three children, Sandra, Stephen and Valerie. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, American Legion Auxiliary, was Vestry Assistant Treasurer of St. John the Apostle Episcopal Church, Treasurer of the E.C. W., Treasurer of St. Helens Alter Guild, also a lay reader, hospital volunteer from 1956 to 1990, a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer since 1981, past member of the Literary Club, and the Business Professionals. Mildred also served as the Director of the Guardian Angel Nursery School from 1964 to 1988. Preceding her in death were her parents; half brother, Reginald Stephen Bruton; husband, Calvin C. Heilman; and grandson, David Lance Heilman. She is survived and very much loved by her daughter, Sandra Lamont of Orleans; son, Stephen (Paula) Heilman of Charlotte; and daughter, Valerie (Dan) Schmitz of Ionia; grandchildren, Krista Heilman Sheldon of Middleville, Matthew (Renee) Schmitz of Boston, Mass., and Jennifer Schmitz of Washington; great grandchildren, 3 year-old Eli Matthew Schmitz and 10-month-old Noelle Renee Schmitz of Boston, Mass.; and cousin, Angela (Peter) Fripp of Dorset, England. The most enjoyment she had was being with her children, grandchildren and also many, many loving friends. The Worship Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. John the Apostle Episcopal Church, Ionia, with Fr. Kenneth Taber presiding. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Women of the Moose, or to St. John the Apostle Episcopal Church, in memory of Mildred.
