Born January 30, 1890, in Essex township, Clinton county, she was the daughter of Fred and Fredericka Schmidt. She attended rural Clinton county schools. October 10, 1910, she was married in St. Johns to Alton Kirby. They came to Lyons in 1922 where they owned and operated a restaurant and tavern. Later moving to Muir they owned and operated another restaurant and tavern. Mr. Kirby died in 1942 after which Mrs. Kirby moved to the farm on Hayes road. She was a member of Ionia Moose lodge and Farm Bureau. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lauron Hawley of Muir and Mrs. Bernard Mann of Holland; four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great grandchild, two brothers, Marvin Schmidt of Ionia and Albert of Orleans. Mrs. Kirby will be at her home on Hayes road where the family will meet friends and relatives Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. At noon Sunday she will be taken to Hull Memorial chapel in Muir for services at 2 p.m. Rev. Richard Harrison of Lyons Baptist church will officiate and interment will be at the church cemetery.
