G. Kirgis, 76, of Stanton, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Carson City Hospital. Mr. Kirgis was born Dec. 7, 1928, at Maple Rapids, the son of Gehr and Mirza (Butler) Kirgis. He married Mary E. Albright November 29, 1946 in Muir. Mr. Kirgis has been a longtime resident of the Stanton area, he was retired from the Michigan Reformatory at Ionia after 29 years of service, he was a founding member and the first president of MCO, served 20 years in the Michigan National Guard, where he was a first lieutenant, was a member of Shiloh Community Church and also had memberships in the Masonic Lodge of Lyons, the Ionia Hunting & Fishing Club, the N.R.A., the Flat River Conservation Club and the Sierra Club of Mount Pleasant. He was a former member and past president of the Lyons-Muir Public Schools Board of Education. He also was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, in addition to attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. R.G. is survived by his wife, Mary E. Kirgis; children, Gregory and Molly Kirgis of Belding, Mike and Charlene Kirgis of Ionia, Kathleen Rucinski of Canton, Rodney and Debra Kirgis of Grandville, and David and Cynthia Kirgis of Carson City; 13 grandchildren, Rhett, Tate, Christine, David, Sarah, Jonathan, Stephen, Carrie, Tracy, Zachariah, Jessica, Caleb and Nathan; and sister, Hetti Anne Winters of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bernard Kirgis. Visitation will be Friday, April 22, 2005, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 23, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh Community Church, Orleans with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, Muir. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial considerations to the Shiloh Community Church.
