Kirgis, 55, of Muir died Friday evening at 10:55 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, where he had been a patient for six weeks. He was born August 7, 1899, in Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Kirgis. The family moved to Michigan when he was a small child and he attended schools in Charlotte. October 27, 1926 he was married to Mirza Butler at St. Johns and lived in Maple Rapids until 1936, when he moved to Muir. Surviving besides his bride, Mirza are two sons, R. G. of Lyons, Bernard of Grand Rapids, one daughter, Nettie Ann Kirgis at home, his mother, Mrs. Carrie Smeltner of Lansing, his father, Allen Kirgis of Charlotte, one brother, Reginald of Lansing and four grandchildren He was employed at the Michigan State Reformatory. He was member of Lyons lodge F. and A.M. No. 37, of which he was past master, Lyons chapter No. 60, OE.S. of which he was past patron. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Muir Presbyterian church with the Rev. Louis Herrick officiating. Services will be under the auspices of Lyons Lodge F and A.M. No. 37. Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery. The body reposes at Shaw-Rivett funeral home in Muir until the time of the funeral. Subsequent Publication: The Ionia Standard, Wednesday, December 1, 1954 Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Muir Presbyterian church for Gehr Kirgis, 55, who died Friday evening in Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. The Rev. Louis Herrick officiated. Masonic services were conducted by Lyons Lodge F. and A.M. with Carl Miller of Wacousta, district deputy instructor, in charge. Bearers were Kenneth Wood, Carol Kennedy, Ralph Kimball, Max Reynolds, Edwin Albright and Stephen Kimball. Mrs. Flynn Woodworth was the organist. Members of the Eastern Star attended in a body, as did the office employees of the Union Telephone Co., and a group of members of Co. H., Michigan National Guard, of Ionia. Those from away attending were his father, Allen Kirgis, of Charlotte; Mrs. and Mrs. Bernard Kirgis and son of Grand rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Kirgis and Dale of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Smith Jr., Mrs. Robert Houser, Donald Glasscock and Mr. and Mrs. Milo Hart and Kay of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boltz of Battle Creek; Allen Lesky, Roby Wright and Keith Inglehart of Ionia, and Carl Miller of Wacousta.
