Kirschenman, 98, a perfect mother to Becky Dungan and Jim and an angel on this earth, died peacefully, Monday March 2, 2010 at Autumn Healthcare of Somerset, Ohio. Ruth grew up I her family’s Timpson Apple Farm in Alto. She attended the University of Michigan after graduating from Central High School in Grand Rapids. She taught in a one-room school in Bowne Township. She married her husband Clyde in 1935. They resided for the first years of their marriage in Alto. One of Ruth’s fond memories was supervising the women apple pickers during the war. They then moved to Portland, where they lived for many years. Ruth was active in scouting, the Portland Band Boosters, the Methodist Church and as a volunteer for the Red Cross. In 1966 Clyde and Ruth purchased and renovated a deserted 1880’s house south of Ionia, a project that tapped both their talents for a number of years. For 17 years, after Clyde retired from Oldsmobile in Lansing, they traveled to the Sugar Bowl Ski Resort near Truckee, Calif. Where they both worked during the ski season and where they could be close to their son Jim and their four beloved grandsons. Rut enjoyed and was proficient at quilting, furniture restoration, canning, basket weaving, sewing, wall paper hanging and rug hooking. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clyde Vernon Kirschenman. She was the last surviving child of the six children of Edwin and Nellie (Winks) Timpson. She is survived by her son Jim and his wife Sharon Rhew of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and by her daughter, Dr. Rebecca Dungan and son-in-law, Reed of Hide A Way Hills, Ohio. Reed and Becky’s address is Rte. 1 box 576, Sugar Grove, Ohio 43155. She is also survived by grandchildren Ken (Tamie) Kirschenman, Mark Kirschenma, Eric (Lisa) Kirschenman and Kurt (Dyan) Kirschenman, 12 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. One of the nephews, David Timpson, lived with the family during his childhood. The family is grateful to Autumn Health Care of Somerset who watched over mother with such affection and concern and for Schoedinger Funeral Services for their sensitive and professional handling of final arrangements.
