DOD: Tuesday, 28 September 1937 Howard Klahn passed away at his home Tuesday morning after a few months illness. Howard was prominent in church work being superintendent of the adult department of the Methodist Church Sunday school and an official member of the church for many years. He was a charter member of Lakeside Grange and had served as master and other officers, being treasurer at the time of his death. He served on the school board of the Beard school several years. He was fifty years old and had lived all his life in Odessa Township. After his marriage he went to live on the farm where he died. In 1910 he married Beulah Bowerman. She died in 1916 leaving two children, Gaylia and Beulah. In 1917 he married Cora Velte of Woodland and to them two children Carl and Ruth Mary were born. He leaves besides his widow and children at home, his daughter Mrs. Gaylia Meyers of Woodland, Mrs. Beulah McLeod of Battle Creek; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Klahn, living west of town; a sister Mrs. Gladys Koutz of Odessa, and three brothers Arthur and Ernest of Lansing, and Alton of Sebewa and a grandmother in Grand Rapids, also a large circle of appreciative friends. Funeral services are being held at the home this afternoon with his pastor Rev. Leon W. Manning officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery. Thus a valuable man in active life leaves a work well performed for other to take up.
