Mary C. Smith Klahn, aged 86, of Saranac passed away January 19, 2007 in 
Lansing.  She was born September 14, 1920 in Edmore, Michigan the daughter of 
Wheeler D. and Mary A. (Terrell) Scheiern.  She graduated from Ionia High 
School in 1937.  She married Arthur Smith September 10, 1941 he passed away in 
1981.  She married Carl Klahn April 16, 1986 he passed away in 2004. 

Mary was a member of the Berlin Center Church where she served as a board 
member for many years. She was a member of the Berlin Center Grange, Berlin 
Center Ladies Aide Society, North Berlin Ladies Aide Society, Berlin Center 
UMW, Red Cross Volunteer at the Ionia Hospital, 4-H Foods leader and Ionia 
County Agriculture Extension Service. 

She is survived by her Son Calvin Smith of Ionia. Her daughter Diane Adams of 
Ionia. Sisters Ruth Ingraham of Portland, Elsie Voorheis of LaBelle, Florida, 
Irma Smith of Greenville. Grandchildren Katherine Adams, Jacklynn Adams, Kevin 
Adams, Jeffery Smith, Benjamin Smith, Amanda Smith, Amber Smith, Zachary 
Smith. Sister in law Elaine Scheiern of Ionia. Several Nieces and Nephews.  
She was preceded in death by her sons Vincent and Daniel, brothers Harold and 
Joseph and Sisters Janet Lower and Eunice Ritz.

Funeral Services for Mary will be held Monday 1 :30 P.M. at the Berlin Center 
Church with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. 
Visitation will be at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac Saturday 4-7 P.M. and 
Sunday 4-7 P.M. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Berlin 
Center Church.
