PORTLAND- Lawrence Joseph Klein, age 71, loving husband, dad and grandpa passed 
away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 after a long hard fought battle with cancer. 
He was born on March 28, 1942 in Lansing the son of Norman and Marie (Werner) 
Klein. Larry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the K of C #2168 
in Portland. He loved his family and loved being a grandpa. He was an avid fan 
of the Detroit Tigers, enjoyed English walnuts, traveling, sprint car racing 
and just sitting on his patio listening to the wind chimes. On April 25, 1964 
he married Rita Smith.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Edwin and Regina Smith; 
sister and brothers-in-law Geannie (Bob) Shattuck, Bill Stajos, Christie 
Goodman, Wayne Gray, Donald and Richard Smith. Surviving are his wife of 49 
years, Rita; children Dennis (Victoria) Klein, Sandra (Randy Helmer) Klein, 
Kenneth (Kim Johnson) Klein; grandchildren Fisher and Jordan Klein and Jenna 
Johnson; siblings, James (Jean) Klein, Jan Stajos, Thomas (Cathy) Klein, 
Colleen (Ron) Gladding; in-laws Jerome (Jewal) Smith, Jim (Linda) Smith, 
Patricia Goodman, Evelyn Smith, Marilyn Smith and Liz Gray; many nieces and 
nephews. 

The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, 
October 2, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Larry King presiding. 
Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive 
friend 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., 
Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. For those wishing, memorial 
contributions may be made to St. Patrick School in memory of Larry.
