Eleanor was born October 26, 1923 in Holland,MI to Albert Peter Bareman and Margaret (Maggie) Vandenberg Bareman. Eleanor experienced much in her lifetime. She often recalled the difficult childhood memory of losing their family home and having to sell all of their furniture during the depression. She told of the small apartment they moved to and her dad working three jobs just to survive. She also spoke of her life as a young adult, working in Bennett's Wood factory in Zeeland, MI and later at Chris Craft making products that were needed during World War II. She left her job at Chris Craft when Gerrit came back from serving in the Army on the European front. She and Gerrit got married at that time, believing that shortly after their wedding he would be sent to serve in Japan. Fortunately, that didn't happen as World War II ended and Gerrit was sent to finish his time in the military in Mississippi until being discharged in November of 1945. Following Gerrit's discharge from the army, they moved to Zeeland, MI where they built a home, had their first three children and Gerrit finished his college education at Hope College. In 1951 Eleanor and Gerrit and their family moved to Lake Odessa, MI where Gerrit began teaching math. They built a house in Lake Odessa which they moved into shortly before Eleanor gave birth to her fourth child, and later a fifth child was born to complete their family. Eleanor lived in this house for nearly 70 years until she moved to Green Acres in Ionia where she lived until she passed away. Eleanor was known for her strong faith. It was that faith that helped her through the difficult times in her life. She was a great helpmate to Gerrit seeing him trough challenges he endured because of diabetes. She always had a listening ear available foe her children during those times of life when you just need to talk to your Mom. She will be forever missed by children, Ken (Faye) Klomp,, Carol Fletcher,Kathy (Steve) Butt, Gail(Joel) Pepper and Gary (Gwen) Klomp; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
