She was born Aug. 15 in Smyrna, Mich. the daughter of John and Clara (Hausman) Metternick. She married Andy Kloster in Winneconne, Wis. Nov. 28, 1933. Louise worked hard her whole life beginning when she was just a girl by carrying the lantern for her father when he brought in the milk from the barn every day. She said he broke the globe in the lantern when milk sloshed on it if she wasn’t there to help. When she was a teenager she began to work at the silk mill in Belding, Mich. Shortly after her marriage to Andy, they opened up their first bakery in Omro, Wis. and ran that for several years. Over the years they lived in many different states and ran several businesses. In 1963 they opened up “Kloster’s Bakery” in downtown Ionia. Louise was in charge of selling the baked goods, doing the “books” and cleanup. There wasn’t a corner in that building that didn’t see her scrub brush. In her spare time Louise kept a large vegetable garden and crocheted many warm afghans. She also loved to read. She was never able to attend high school, but that didn’t stop her thirst for knowledge. Louise was always proud of the fact that she was able to stay in her own home for so many years. The last 10 months she made her home at Heartland Healthcare Center in Ionia where her sense of humor bubbled to the surface frequently and was enjoyed by all who were around her. She is survived by 4 children, Kathleen (Edward) Hecht, of Montrose, Colo., Geraldine (Thomas) Arntz of Woodinville, Wash., James (Sharon) Kloster of Coos Bay, Ore. and Mary Lou (Garry) Mulick of Belding, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Andy in 1975, her brother Francis Metternick in 2006, and her sister Theresa Case in 2007. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Boufford celebrant. Interment Saranac Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac where there will be a Rosary at 8 p.m. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions in Louise’s name to Ionia Commission on Aging.
