Knapp, 83, life long resident, passed away at the Veteran’s hospital at Fort Custer, Saturday morning where he had been a patient for about two years. He was a member of the IOOF lodge and is believed to be the last veteran of this area of the Indian war in which he served nine years. Mr. Knapp, more familiarly known as Race, was employed by the railroad and also did carpenter work in his earlier days. In later years he spent much of his time fishing during the season and spent time down town visiting with friends. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. J.A. Quintal of Alma; three step-children, Arthur Thomas of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Ina Halladay of Pritchard, Ala., and Mrs. Basil Peterson of Eaton Rapids. Mrs. Knapp passed away in November 1944. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pickens chapel with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. A.J. Pitman officiated.
