The Ionia Sentinel, Friday, September 13, 1872

Died—in Berlin, Sept. 4th, Martha Knapp, wife of Benajah Knapp, aged 52 years, 
7 months and 2 days.

In the morning of life she embraced religion and united with the Methodist 
Episcopal Church and remained a faithful member until called to go up higher.  
She was one of the number who could always be depended upon, ready for duty 
and ever willing to do it.  She has left a large family and many kindred 
friends to mourn her loss, but they mourn not as those that have no hope.  
Even in the valley and shadow of death she had no fears for the Lord was with 
her, and she longed to cross the river and be with Jesus.

May the Lord help her companion to feel in this affliction that Jesus has 
taken her home; it will be but a little time ere the summons will call him to 
meet with her in the Glory house.  And may her daily walk and conversation be 
deeply treasured by her loving children that they too when called hence may 
have an entrance to the Beautiful City.
