Knapp, died Wednesday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Knapp, 86, was founder and participant in the Knapp Family Singers for over 35 years. The group had performed at fairs, for senior citizen functions, and had its own radio program for 13 years on WKAR. He was born November 17, 1896 in Eaton county, the son of Lamont and Dora Knapp. He attended Blanchard High School and married Marjorie Royston in June of 1918. She died in January of 1978. He was a truck farmer for many years and sold his products at the Lansing City Market for over 25 years. He lived in Ionia for 20 years before moving to Lyons in 1940. Knapp was an army veteran of WWI and was a 60-year member of the Gerard Horrocks American Legion Post in Ionia. He is survived by one son, Eldon of Ionia; one daughter, Arlene Root of Mulliken; one sister, Mrs. Otella Maynard of Portland; a sister-in-law, Miss Marie Royston, who has lived with the family for many years; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hull Memorial Chapel with Rev. Nolan Williams of Zion United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.
