Kneeland was attended from the late home, 316 East Washington street, on Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. W. H. Thomas, D.D., of St. John’s Episcopal church, and many of the elder people of the community filled the rooms of the stricken home. Deceased was a native of new York state, but came west while yet in his boyhood—in 1844, to be precise, and ever since that year, or five years more than a long half century, he was an upright citizen of Ionia county. In ’44 he located on a farm in the township of North Plains; later he moved to Muir, where he engaged in the mercantile business, and from thence to Ionia. At the time of his death he was a member of the grocery firm of Kneeland & Meriam. He leaves behind to mourn the death of a good husband and father, the aged wife, and an only childn, Mrs. A. W. Merriam. Interment was in Highland Park.
