C. Kniffin passed away at her home in this village Thursday, April 27, after a long illness, aged 85 years. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m., Rev. E. R. Cochrun, officiating clergyman, singing by Mrs. C. H. Runciman; burial at Oakwood cemetery. Celestia A. Dawson, daughter of David and Elizabeth Dawson, was born at Dumfries, Ont., May 8, 1837, and came to Keene township, Ionia county, Mich., in 1849. She was married to W. C. Kniffin in Lowell, May 28, 1859, and this has since been their home. To them was born a son, E. H. Kniffin, upon whom, with his wife, has devolved the tender care of his parents in their old age and the mother in her last illness. Mrs. Kniffin is survived by her aged husband, her son and his wife, a brother, H. F. Dawson, of Lowell, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Moore, and Mrs. Emma Austin, of Grand Rapids, many other relatives and a host of friends. Among those present at the funeral services were: Mrs. Mary E. Moore, Mrs. Emma Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rouse, Mr. and Mrs. Will Dawson, Charles Dawson and daughter Mamie, Miss La Vanche Moore, all of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dawson and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dawson, of Saranac, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burtch, Miss Evelyn Irish, and Mr. and Mrs. John Corrigan, all of Lyons; and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kenchele, Carl Webber, of Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jones of Hastings.
