Knight Died Sunday Was In Furniture Business In Ionia From The Early Sixties. Until Seven Years Ago When He Retired on Account of Advanced Age – Four Children Survive. The death of Alex A. Knight, for a great many years a resident of Ionia and identified with its business interests for nearly half a century occurred last night at home on High street at the corner of Pleasant. He had been ill for several days with arterial hardening resulting in a complication of trouble which caused his death. Sunday his condition was considered serious but no immediate danger was anticipated. However he grew rapidly worse later in the day. Mr. Knight came to Ionia in the fifties and engaged in the manufacture of furniture in the Arnold building in South Ionia. He lived there for several years, served as township treasurer and lost his hand while he labored there. Early in the sixties he came to the city and started a furniture store in the frame building which stood where the Silver-Graff block now is. He remained in business there and in the building where Winchell & Stone, to whom he sold out, are now located until about seven years ago, when he sold out. Mr. Knight was twice married and leaves four children, Abe Knight of Chicago, Miss Martha Knight, Dr. Charles R. Knight of Greenville and John Knight. The funeral arrangements had not been definitely made this afternoon.
