January 9, 1920 SEBEWA PIONEER GOES HOME JAN. 1ST Resided in Vicinity Since 1866. Charter Member of Sebewa Wesleyan Church. Buried from Home of Daughter, Mrs.Geo. Fletcher. Rassellas Knoll, a sturdy pioneer of Sebewa township, died New years day at his home, just as his daughter, mrs. Eritta Fletcher, and husband were visiting him and were preparing for him to accompany them home that he might be more comfortable in the cold weather. Mr.Knoll had lived alone several years in preference to going away from his home to live with his daughter, as many elderly do prefer living in the home that the years have endeared to them. Mr.Knoll grew up with the township. He wa a charter member of the Wesleyan Methodist church of Sebewa and active in community affairs. The funeral was held at he home of his daughter, Mr and Mrs George Fletcher Sunday afternoon, Rev.A.F. Nagler gave the address and Mrs.O.C.Russ and Mrs.Alberta Dann Sang. The remains were placed in the Knoll-Fletcher vault at Lakeside. OBITUARY Rassellas Knoll was born in Niagara Co., N.Y., Aug.. 24, 1832, and departed this life in West Sebewa, Mich., Jan. 1, 1920, aged 87 years, 4 months and 8 days. When but a child he moved with his parents from New York state to Ohio near Toledo. In early manhood he resided in Dundee, Mich., where he also on Sept 4, 1861, married Charlotte D.Rowley, who died a year later. Following this he lived in various places in the state, till he came and bought what is the old homestead in West Sebewa in 1866. At this time he married Betsy L.Webster, whose maiden name was Thompson, and who shared with him the vicissitudes of pioneer life down to more favorable conditions and passed beyond about 8 years ago. This union was blessed with on daughter, Mrs.Eritta S.Fletcher of Lake Odessa. Mr. Knoll was one of the charter members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in West Sebewa, and for many years shared in its activities, and in very good work in the community. He was of the type of manhood and sterling character which belonged to so many of the pioneers, who laid the foundations upon which we are today building and to whom we owe an everlasting debt of gratitude. His health was unusually fine thru out his long life, and only recent years did the infirmities of age remind him that the span of life was nearly finished. The end came suddenly at his home in Sebewa on New Year's day, after a social visit with his daughter while he was setting in is chair, about to come to Lake Odessa for a brief stay with them. Mr.Knoll was the eldest of seen children, three of whom survive, namely; Matthew of West Sebewa, Boyd of Furlock, Cal, who is a clergyman in the Pres. Methodist church, and John of Dundee. Other immediate relative are a half-brother and a half-sister of Mrs.Fletcher, namely; Ira Webster of Portland, Mich., and Julia Estep of Lake Odessa.
