All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net June 16, 2010, 8:48 pm The Lake Odessa Wave, Friday, October 17, 1919 Mr. William Knott, an early settler of this section, died at his home east of the village at three o’clock Wednesday morning of Brights disease; after several hours of unconsciousness he peacefully slept away into eternal rest. He was 82 years, 10 months and 8 day sold. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Radical united Brethren church, Rev. Isaac Mourer officiating assisted by Rev. H. L. Beadle; interment was in Lakeside cemetery. William Knott was born in Chomok, Jefferson Co., New York. He was married to Miss Adelia Houseman of the same section, Jan. 2, 1859. There they lived for fourteen years, then coming west to Michigan, locating first in the southern part of Sunfield township just after the Civil War was closed. Here they lived for eight years then moving to section 33 of Sebewa township making their home here for sixteen years, clearing up the land and made a home for themselves and family. Thirty-one years ago they moved to Lake Odessa; first they resided in the village for some time then moved to the farm where Mrs. Knott died in 1906. To this union were born eleven children, seven girls and four boys, ten of whom are living; the little daughter, Rosa, dieing in infancy. Those who are left to mourn their loss are: Mrs. Ben Porter of Sunfield; Mrs. John Otto of Lake Odessa; Miss Ella Knott of Grand Rapids; Mr. Geo. Knott of Chippewa Lake; Mr. James Knott of Ionia; Mrs. Ben Garlinger of Lake Odessa; Miss Emma Knott of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Lewis Earle of Lake Odessa; Mr. Alonzo Knott of Grand Ledge, Mr. Harvey Knott at home, and three brothers and one sister; also fourteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Mr. Knott chose Christ as his Savior early in life, who helped him to live a steadfast, Christian life until death.
