She was born in Bentou, Yates county, New York, in 1830, and came to Ionia in 1854, coming with a colony and making the trip from Detroit to Ionia by stage. In 1856 she married Edmond Knowles and they made their home in the same part of Ionia in which she lived for so long. Of their six children, three survive, George, Miss Annis and Harry. Mr. Knowles died in 1897, his wife surviving him over twenty years. Mrs. Knowles was a Methodist of that type of practical Christianity, which is always doing for others in a quiet and effective way not known to the public but that best of public servants, a good neighbor. The funeral services will be held at the home on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. R. J. Slee having charge of the service, and the interment will be in the family lot at Highland Park.
