Ionia County News, 18 Jan 1945

Mrs. Bessie Toan Knox died at her home on Bridge street in Portland, early 
Monday morning, Jan. 15, after a long illness.  The widow of the late Fred 
Knox, Sr. she was 73 years old and had been a resident of Portland for 51 
years.  Surviving are a daughter, Miss Helen Knox; a son, Fred Knox, Jr., and a 
grandson, Kendall Knox, all of Portland.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon from the residence.  Rev. George 
P. Stanford of the Methodist church conducted the service.  Pall bearers were 
William Toan, Dan Watson, John Lawless and Harold Buck.  Burial was in  
Portland cemetery.
