He was a member of the San Antonio Heating and Air Conditioning Association, the Men's Club at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, where he also sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Men's Garden Club and the AARP. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian and grandson, Gregory Sullivan. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Palmeiri Koelzer; children, Michael Koelzer, Andrea Sullivan and Phyllis Wick; brother, Phillip Koelzer; sister, Mable Koelzer Smith; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held July 29 at St. Margaret Mary's Church, San Antonio, with graveside services with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
