Chas. Koerber Passes Away on Wednesday

Former Resident Of Ionia Prominently Known In Business

Charles H. Koerber, 53, brother of Clarence Koerber, president of the Grand 
Valley Brewing company of Ionia, and a former resident of this city, died 
yesterday at Mercy Hospital at Toledo, Ohio.

Koerber was born in Ohio and spent his boyhood in Akron.  He came to Ionia when 
his father, John Koerber, Sr., purchased the Grand Valley Brewery.  He remained 
in Ionia until 1911 when he assisted in the organization of the Michigan 
Brewery at Detroit.

He lived in Detroit from that time until 1933; during this period, in addition 
to the Michigan Brewery, he was interested in the real estate and automobile 
sales businesses.  In 1933, together with his two brothers, he organized the 
Koerber Brewery at Toledo where he lived until the time of his death.

Koerber was widely known throughout Michigan and Ohio in connection with his 
business interests.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was an 
enthusiastic hunter and joined with his club in an annual trek to the north 
woods, and in the last few years to the woods of Pennsylvania.

He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Longe of Ionia in July of 1912.

Surviving him are his wife; six children, Mrs. Charles Dantzer, Charles F., 
John W., Delores, George M., all of Toledo, and Robert L. in military service 
in Panama; four brothers, Clarence A. of Ionia, William G. and John of Detroit, 
and Arthur of Toledo; two sisters, Mrs. William Wolf of Detroit and Mrs. Ernest 
Farr of Akron, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at the Gesu church at Toledo at 10:00 a.m. 
Saturday.
