Nov. 8, 2008 Gerald Louis Kohagen, of Pewamo, age 87, loving father, grandfather and brother passed away on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008. He was born on June 16, 1921 in Fowler the son of Fred and Veronica (Goerge) Kohagen. Gerald was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo and a lifelong area farmer. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII and a member of the Fowler, Pewamo, Westphalia V.F.W. Post # 3939. Gerald retired from the Ionia Co. Road Commission and after his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially the grandchildren. Surviving are his children Sue (Bill) Coughlin of Englewood, Colo., Elaine (Gary) Poh. of Westphalia, Theresa (David) Thelma of Westphalia, Colleen (Vince) Koperski of Hopkins, Dale (Candy) Kohagen of Mt. Pleasant and Dean (Sue) Kohagen of Westphalia; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and sister Theresa Kramer of Pewamo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 1999. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Charlon O. Mason at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Military Graveside Services will be provided by V.F.W. Post #3939 Fowler, Pewamo, Westphalia. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at St. Mary’s funeral; Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m., Monday and 3 p.m., Tuesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday. Arrangements are entrusted to Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland. Online condolences may be made at www.schraubenlehman.com.
