Another well known and highly respected old resident of Otisco township was summoned by the Grim Reaper and laid to his last rest last week when Michael Kohn, aged 73 years, passed away at his home at Cook’s Corners, Tuesday, after a last illness which came on him the Thursday previous and which had been brought on by a second stroke of paralysis. Mr. Kohn had been in poor health for a number of years past. Michael, or “Mike” Kohn, as everybody knew him, was born in Germany and at the age of six months his parents, Peter and Catherine Kohn, brought him to this country, settling in Otisco township, where they assisted in building up the community by means of the sterling characters which they contributed to it, clearing up the land and taking their part in every way as worthy citizens. Mr. Kohn lived with his parents and when a young man, in 1878, was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Krupp, who together with the two daughters who were born to the union, Mrs. Clyde Day and Mrs. Elliott Chadwick, survive, to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. Mr. Kohn was one of a family of nine children, a sister, Mrs. Susan Krupp, of this city, being the last of the nine. For many years Mr. Kohn lived on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Day, but a number of years ago retired from the farm and has since lived at Cook’s Corners. Funeral services were held from St. Mary Catholic church at Miriam, on Friday morning at nine-thirty o’clock and burial was in the cemetery there. Mr. Kohn had been, all his life, a devoted and splendid Catholic, had worshipped in the old church practically his entire life, was married in that edifice fifty years ago last month and the solemn requiem mass which was a part of his burial services, was read in the same building. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Dorr officiated at the funeral Mass and services. Mr. Kohn was a splendid type of man, a credit to any community and through his passing comes at a ripe old age and at the end of a well spent life, he has a legion of friends who will regret to learn that his death has occurred.
