Oct. 10, 2018 THOMAS KOHN, 86 Thomas F. "Tom" Kohn, 86, longtime Belding resident and business owner passed away Friday morning October 5, 2018 at Hathaway Hills in Greenville. Tom was born on June 28, 1932 in Belding, the son of John and Eva (Hauck) Kohn, In his early years Tom attended Belding area Schools, Tom was born with and further developed an astute business mind which helped him in his many business ventures. In 1959 he and three partners established Belco Industries in Belding. With a ton of hard work, perseverance, faith and a lot of help from his wife, children and others, Belco grew into a world-wide manufacturing company. Tom still served as chairman of the Board of Belco Industries. He started and or owned several other business ventures including aluminum extrusion, manufacturing and another Belding business, B & O Saws. Tom also was very civic minded; serving many years on the Belding Board of Education, the Lions Club, the Independent Bank Board and was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Belding. Even being as busy as he was, Tom still enjoyed having fun whether it was an occasional trip to the casino, spending time at the cottage in Eastport with family and friends, fishing and a good round of golf. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida for a number of years. Tom had a big love of family and the many times and trips they were all together on. His legacy and contributions to this area will never be forgotten. He was married on July 11, 1953 in Belding to Rosalyn Feuerstein. She along with his parents, brothers sisters and close friend Jeanne Hughes have preceded him. Tom is loved and survived by his children; Michael (Deborah) Kohn of Belding, Douglas (Joanne Strobel) of Rockford, Mark (Kathy) Kohn, Nicholas (Renee) Kohn all of Belding, Becky (Bryan) Higgins of Gowen, Julie Kohn of Grandville, his grandchildren; Jason (Tara) Kohn, Lindsey (Michael) Boyle, Benjamin (HiIlary) Kohn, Stephen (Rachel) Kohn, Angela Strobel, Emily Strobel, Jonathon Kohn, Aaron (Jennifer) Kohn, Kyle (Samantha) Kohn, Megan (Ryan) DeVree, Christopher (Emily Wyble) Kohn, Whitney (Craig) Cushman, Caitlin Ingraham, his great-grandchildren; Jackson, Emma, Madelinn, Stephanie, Maxwell, Dominic, Roman, Victoria, Alden, Isaac, Calvin, Adalynn, Sophia, Warren, Maddox, Noah and his Siblings; Robert, Florence, many nieces, nephews and the children and grandchildren of Jeanne Hughes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday October 11, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding with Father Jim Wyse as celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 pm at Johnson-Feuerstein funeral Home, Belding and from 6-8 pm at St. Joseph Catholic church, Belding with a rosary prayed at 7:30 pm. Committal prayers will follow the funeral mass in St. Joseph Cemetery, Belding. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Church or the Alvah N. Belding Library. Envellopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
