Edward was born on December 15, 1925 in Ionia County, the son of Martin and Mona (Crakes) Kooiman. Ed was a member of Ashley Baptist Church and enjoyed work, gardening and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed coffee at McDonalds in the morning and was a good Christian man. He never wavered from the saving power of his faith in Jesus Christ. For many years Ed drove truck for Subsurface- Utility. He married Christine Rietdyk on March 12, 1954 in Grand Rapids and she preceded him in death along with one son; Edward Kooiman Jr., his parents and one sister; Gertrude and two brothers; Richard and Donald. Edward is loved and survived by his sons; John (Joan) Stremler of Holland, Douglas Kooiman of Twin Lake, David (Beverly) Kooiman of Saranac, Michael (Kimberly) Kooiman of Belding, Matthew (Michelle) Kooiman of Lowell and Neal (Dawn) Kooiman of Cedar Springs, 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, his siblings; Keith (Joann) Kooiman of Middleville, Martin Kooiman of Lowell, and Elenor Kruger of CO. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Ashley Baptist Church, Belding with Pastor David A. Oliver officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding and one hour before the service at church. Committal prayers will be in Saranac Cemetery, Saranac. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Ashley Baptist Church building fund. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Metron of Belding for the love and care given to Ed over the past six years.
