The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, September 2, 1947

John Koster, 77, 115 State street, died at the Ionia County Memorial hospital 
Monday evening at 10:15 o’clock after a lengthy illness.  Mr. Koster had been 
seriously ill, however only since Sunday, August 24, entering the Ionia 
hospital Thursday.

He was born in Westphalia April 26, 1870 but had lived in Ionia since 1920.  
For 13 years he was a night watchman for Ionia City.

Surviving him are his wife, Eva; three daughters, Mrs. C. J. Funkey and Mrs. 
Harry Gemuend of Ionia, and Mrs. John Trierweiler of Westphalia; thirteen 
grandchildren; two great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. William Martin 
of St. Johns, Mrs. William Schneider of Detroit, and Mrs. Charles Motz of 
Bakersfield, Calif.

Rosary will be said Wednesday evening at 8:00 o’clock at his home, where the 
body will repose.  Funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 
o’clock from SS. Peter and Paul church.
