Koutz, 95, a lifelong resident of Ionia county, died Thursday at 3:30 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bertha Bartlett, 817 East Main street, where he had resided for the past two years. He had complained of being ill for the past three weeks. Born January 4, 1860 in Ionia county, he was the son of George W. and Elizabeth Koutz. The family moved to Odessa township when Koutz was four years old and he spent most of his life on the farm there. He married Charlotte Musgrove in Canada on December 24, 1895, and the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1945. Mrs. Koutz died in 1952. Koutz was a member of the East Odessa Wesleyan Methodist church. Surviving are a son, Lloyd of Odessa township; four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Bartlett and Mrs. Harry Wagner, Ionia, Mrs. Harley D. Johnson, Lansing and Mrs. Alton Joppie, Pt. Huron; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home until Saturday noon when it will be removed to the East Odessa Wesleyan Methodist church for services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Lakeside cemetery.
