Koutz was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, Jan. 3?, 1833. At the age of four years he moved with his parents to the state of Ohio, and a few years later came with his parents to Michigan and settled in Ionia county. On October 26, 1859 he was married to Sarah E. Scott, who departed this life January 4, 1871. To this union was born three daughters, M. Viola, Alice E. and Fannie E. He was again married to Elizabeth A. Nickerson, and to them one daughter was born, Malvina E., who passed away November 6, 1906, the wife and mother following one year later. December 9, 1908 he married Miss Ola Wylie. He is survived by the widow; three daughters, Mesdames M. Viola Norman, Alice E. Curtis and Fannie E. Nicles; a brother, Searight Koutz, who resides in Dakota, and four grandchildren. In early life he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and was a faithful member for many years. He was the senior member of the Official Board of the Lyons Methodist Episcopal church and was president of the Board of Trustees. He will be greatly missed in the circles of church life which he so much loved, and to which he was faithful to the very last. The funeral was held from the church Saturday afternoon, December 14, and was largely attended.
