KOUTZ Vernon W. Koutz 71, retired farmer and state bee inspector, died at Pennock hospital, Thursday morning, October 15, where he had been a patient for three weeks with a heart ailment. Mr. Koutz was born June 13, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Koutz,and had been a lifelong resident of this area. He married Gladys Klahn, January 26, 1930 and they lived on their farm northeast of town until moving to their home in the village in December 1919. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church and the IOOF lodge and at the time of his death he was serving as financial secretary of the lodge, in which office he had served a number of years as well as most of other offices of the lodge. He was also a beekeeper. Surviving are his wife; one sister Mrs. Pearl Ireman of Ann Arbor, one nephew and cousins. Funeral services were held Saturday October 17, at 2 p.m. at the Pickens funeral chapel with burial in the Lakeside cemetery. Rev. John Crotser officiated.
